| Documentary Film “Tolerance to Torture” was awarded with the “Best Documentary Film” in 20th Istanbul International Short Film Festival after 9th International Izmir Short Film Festival. |
Documentary film “Tolerance to Torture” directed by Armağan Pekkaya and Umut Kol and realised by Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (HRFT) awarded with the “best documentary film award” in 20thIstanbul International Short Film Festival after the 9th International Izmir Short Film Festival which was held on 3-9 November 2008.
Director of the film Pekkaya, congratulated the jury for showing courage to award this kind film in the award ceremony in Istanbul French Culture Centre in the night of 12 November 2008 . This award which was given to “Tolerance to Torture” film, is the best reply to Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) Yozgat deputy Abdulkadir Akgül who said that “I will be glad to shot the ones that commit offences against my nation, my state. Justice has been practised too equally in Turkey” and to the mentality he represented “Tolerance to Torture” was also short-listed and displayed in several national and international festivals such as 45th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, 20th International Istanbul Short Film Festival, 13th Boston Film Festival, 29th İFSAK Contest and METU Short Film Days. Its premiere was held in the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture on 26 June 2008.
Human Rights Foundation of Turkey that undertook the treatment and rehabilitation of 11.590 people who applied to the foundation on the grounds that torture and ill-treatment had been inflicted on them since 1990 dedicated this documentary film to its real owners, to the millions of torture survivors in Turkey and in the World.
HRFT, considering the success of the documentary film “Tolerance to Torture” in the 20thIstanbul International Short Film Festival after the 9th International Izmir Short Film Festival as “a considerable step forward in the prevention of torture and ill-treatment”, would like to thank to all the people who devoted their work in the realisation of the film and to all the people and institutions who are in solidarity and cooperation with HRFT in the prevention of torture and in the treatment and rehabilitation of torture survivors.
