(08/001) Operations and clashes in South-east...
Salih Özdemir (55), closed People’s Labour Party (HEP) Batman Province Chairperson, Sadi Özdemir (47), Human Rights Association’s (HRAHuman Rights Association /IHD) Bastman Province Branch’s former Chairperson and Head of Demirlipınar Village, Sedat Özevi (48), Human Rights Association’s (HRA/IHD) Bastman Province Branch’s former Chairperson, and Sofi Özdemir (45), were killed with the explosion of a mine as they were driving to South Raman Petrollium Region to interfere the fire in the fields near Demirlipınar Village of Hasankeyf District of Batman Province on 1 August 2010 (Radikal; ANF, 1 August).
Three soldiers were wounded with the explosion of a mine as a brigade was passing by for road check in Pervari District of Siirt Province on 30 July 2010 (ntvmsnbc.com, 30 July).
A soldier was wounded in in the clash between Turkish Armed Forces and Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKKKurdish Workers' Party ) armed wing People’s Defence Forces (HPGPeople's Defence Forces (armed wing of the PKK) ) near Sazak Village of Reşadiye District of Tokat Province on 29 July 2010 (tsk.tr, 29 July).
A police officer and three HPG militants were killed, two police officers were wounded in the attack of HPG militants with roket launchers on the District Security Directorate and the army housing in Eruh District of Siirt Province on 2 August 2010 (ntvmsnbc.com, 3 August).
(08/002) Murder by unknown assailants in Şırnak…
Sahip Taşar (29), a taxi driver who had gone to take customer(s) from Small Industry Site in Şırnak Province on 29 July 2010, was found death on Siirt road on 1 August 2010. His hands were tied and his skull was fractured with stone. His car was found in the place where he had gone to take customer (ANF, 1 August).
(08/003) Excessive use of force by law enforcement officers…
Law-enforcement officers interfered to the crowd with pepper gas and batons after the meeting which was organised by Peace and Democracy Party (BDPPeace and Democracy Party ) to boycott the referendum on the amendment of the constitution in Van Province on 1 August 2010. In one of the camera records two civil police officers were seen as beating a 10 year-old boy and hitting him to the wall (ntvmsnbc.com, 1 August).
(08/004) Coercion in prison…
M.B. (17), who had been arrested on 25 July 2010 in connection with “burning tires” in the birthday of Abdullah Öcalan in Suruç District of Şanlıurfa Province on 4 April 2010 released after the amendment of Fighting with Terorrism Law from Şanlıurfa E Type Closed Prison. He stated on 30 July 2010 that he had been put into a ward of forensic prisoners without his knowledge and he was beaten by the prisoners on the grounds that “he is a terrorist”. He made an official complaint against the administration of the prison and the prisoners on the incident in which he had lost his three teeth in the incident (Radikal, 31 July).
(08/005) Tried newspaper and radio workers…
On 29 July 2010 Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 10 went on hearing the case against 24 defendants who had been arrested in the “Gaye Operation” on 10 September 2006 on charges of “being a member and executive of an illegal organisation (Marxist Leninist Communist Party (MLKPMarxist-Leninist Communist Party )” under Article 314 of TPCTurkish Penal Code . Nine of the defendants were released in previous hearings.
The lawyers of the defendants who had been working in Atılım Newspaper and Özgür Radio Station stated that the pre-trial detention periods of the defendants became the execution of the conviction and asked for their release. The court prolonged the pre-trial detention period of the defendants and adjourned the hearing to 10 December 2010 (atilim.org, 30 July).
(08/006) Attack on party building…
Nationalist Action Party’s (MHPNationalist Movement Party ) Province Branch Office was set on fire in Basmane Quarter of Konak District of İzmir Province on 31 July 2010 (ANF, 31 July).
