Police officer Hüsnü Uyan (28) who had been wounded in the explosion in Justice and Development Party’s (AKPJustice and Development Party ) Istanbul Branch office on 1 December 2008 died in the hospital on 29 December (Milliyet, 29 December).
(12/128) Impunity in death in detention: The Case of Mustafa Kükçe…
On 4 December public prosecution office decided to take nolle prosequi decision in the case of Mustafa Kükçe (24) who died in Ümraniye E Type Closed Prison due to torture which was inflicted on him in three different police stations on 17 June 2007 on the grounds that “he may had cerebral haemorrhage by falling before he was apprehended” (Radikal, 30 December).

A case was launched against the Trabzon Province Gendarmerie Regiment ex-commander Colonel Ali Öz and five other soldiers -Metin Yildiz, Önder Aras, Hüseyin Yilmaz, Haci Ömer Ünaldi and Gazi Günay- in Trabzon Penal Court of Peace No. 2 in connection with the murder of Hrant Dink on 19 January 2007 in Istanbul Province on charges of “negligence in office” on 29 December (ntvmsnbc.com, 29 December).

According to a news on 29 December, the guardians who were transferred to Erzurum H Type Closed Prison from Metris T2 Type Closed Prison by Minstry of Justice on the grounds that they had inflicted torture on Engin Çeber and caused his death, inflicted torture on the prisoners they had transferred (Taraf, 29 December).

Writer Sertaç Dogan was sentenced to 1000 days’ of imprisonment in connection with his book Sirnak is Burning 1992 -Sirnak Yaniyor 1992- which was published by Do Press on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law on 29 December. The sentence was communed to a fine of 16.660 YTL (anf, 29 December).

Kocaeli Penal Court of Peace No. 1 adjudicated to arrest Adnan Sahin, Zeliha Aldatmaz, Sadik Cebe and Baran Çakmak –four out of 11 people who have search warranties against themselves in connection with the activities organised in Kocaeli University on 27 November- on charges of “praising crime and criminal” under the Article of 215/1 of TPCTurkish Penal Code on 29 December (Gündem, 29 December).
