(11/163) Death in Detention…
On 26 November security forces were called when Erdal Keloglu (34) who has been under psychological treatment, exuberated in Zonguldak Province. Keloglu who was broght to police station resisted to enter the station. Police teams interfered with batons and pepper gas. Erdal Kelogu died in the hospital.
Zonguldak Security Director Atilla Çinar claimed that “Keloglu, sickened in front of the station. Nearly our ten police officers tried to make him calm down. Then emergency service was called. The person fled and fell down as they tried to make him composing injection.”
Chief Public Prosecution Office launched an investigation on the incident and will take the testimonies of the police officers in charge (Milliyet, 26 November).
(11/164) Torture and ill-treatment in detention…
Hidir Güngör (54), who has been living in Germany as a political refugee in last 20 years was detained in his hometown Tunceli Province and tortured on the grounds that he is a “suicide bomber” (yeniozgurpolitika.com, 26 November).
(11/165) Violence in high school…
On 18 November A.Ü. a teacher of Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge in Anatolian Vocational High School for Tourism beat his/her students O.E. ve H.T.K. with slaps and kicks on the grounds that they made noise. Tekirdag Chief Public Prosecution Office and Province National Education Directorate launched investigations against the teacher (Milliyet, 26 November).
(11/166) Attack on party building…
Unidentified person(s) attacked on the Democratic Society Party’s (DTP) Edirne Province Branch building in the night of 25 November and broke all the windows. Police detained a person in connection with the attack (Gündem, 26 November).
(11/167) Raid on party building…
On 26 November gendarmerie teams raided on DTP’s Sarigazi, Samandira and Sancaktepe Municipality Branches in Istanbul Province and detained Nahit Onat, Serdal Çatal, Çiçek Arinç, Ülker Özatikli and Turan Özatikli (Gündem, 26 November).
(11/168) Detentions and arrests…
Mustafa Aydin a correspondent of Dicle News Agency was detained as he went to Izmir Bozyaka District Security Directorate to give testimony on the grounds that there was an official complaint against him on 26 November (Gündem, 26 November).
Halil Dogan, DTP’s Municipality Assembly member was arrested on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” in Viransehir District of Sanliurfa Province on 26 November (Gündem, 26 November).
Ismet Kizilka, A.K., Mehmet Ali Aka and Mustafa Ince were arrested on charges of “making illegal demonstration” in Sahinbey District of Gaziantep Province on 26 November. They had been detained on 24 November on the grounds that they attended to protests on 26 October (Gündem, 26 November).
Gendarmerie teams made home raids and detained DTP Kumçati Municipality Branch executives Arafat Güler and Abdullah Barin in Kumçati Municipality of Sirnak Province in the morning of 26 November (Gündem, 26 November).
Four member of the Socialist Platform of the Oppressed (ESP) were detained on the grounds that they tried to hang a placard on the wall of Hatay Province Security Directorate on 26 November (Gündem, 26 November).
