Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 5sentenced B.S. (15) to 13 years and 6 months of imprisonment in connection with attending to a protest and throwing stones to police officers in Batman Province on 9 October 2009 on charges of “committing offence on behalf of an organisation although he is not a member” under Article 220/6 of TPCTurkish Penal Code , “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law and “opposing to the Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations” on 25 January 2010. The court then commuted the sentence to 7 years and 9 months of imprisonment due to his age (Sabah; ANF, 27 January).

Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 12 began to hear the case against three pre-trial detainees -Gülnur Ertaş, Eda Ünalan and Evrim Erdoğdu- who had been detained and then arrested in the operations of police teams against the Independent Revolutionary Class Platform (BDSP) in August 2009 on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law on 26 January 2010. The court released defendants Gülnur Ertaş and Eda Ünalan and adjourned the hearing to 2 March 2010 (kizilbayrak.net, 26 January).

The members of the Socialist Democracy Party (SDP) climbed to the roof of a fast food restaurant in Taksim Square of İstanbul Province and opened a placard to support the TEKEL workers who have been struggling against privatizations and lay-offs in Ankara Province on 26 January 2010. Police teams interfered the protest and detained 20 protestors (Radikal, 26 January).

Seven people were detained by police teams as they were selling Yürüyüş Magazine in Kars Province on 26 January 2010. Police teams reportedly used excessive force and confiscated 50 magazines. The detainees were released later in the same day (halkinsesi.tv, 26 January).
