Van Heavy Penal Court No. 4 sentenced Mesut Bingöl, Mehmet Ali Yılmaz and İhsan Yıldız to 10 months of imprisonment each in connection with the public statement in Varto District of Muş Province on 4 August 2008 on charges of “praising crime and criminal” under the Article of 215/1 of TPCTurkish Penal Code on 25 January 2010 (ANF, 25 January).
(01/103) Operations against BDPPeace and Democracy Party …
Seventy one people had been detained in the operations in Batman, Van, Diyarbakır, İstanbul (25), Iğdır (11), Muş (3), Van (2), İzmir (1), Ağrı (16) and Kars (1) Provinces against the members and executives of Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) on the grounds that they are members of an illegal organisation named Koma Ciwaken Kurdistan-Kurdistan Communities League/Assembly of Turkey (KCK/TMKCK Par lament Turkey ) on 21 January 2010. 11 detainees in Doğubayazıt District of Ağrı Province and 14 detainees in Batman Province were arrested on 25 January 2010 (ANF; Zaman, 25 January).

BDP’s Adıyaman Province Branch Chairperson Mehmet Varol was arrested on the grounds that he had been sentenced to 6 months of imprisonment on charges of “praising crime and criminal” under the Article of 215/1 of TPC on 25 January 2010 (ANF, 25 January).
On 25 January 2010 fifty three people were detained in the intervention of police teams to the protest against the arrest of seven BDP members including Iğdır Mayor Mehmet Nuri Güneş (Radikal, 26 January).
