(12/133) Pressure in the Prisons…
After the prisoners in the Women's Prison in Denizli-Bozkurt informed lawyer Eren Kreskin, member of the Honour Council of the Human Rights Association (HRAHuman Rights Association ), of the violations that had been subjected to in prison, the prison administration filed a case against Hanife Cumbam, Filiz Babaoğlu, Aygün Girgin, Gamze Çelikdağ, Sultan Dakım and Nil Dikenlibudak. On 24 December 2009 it was learned that Denizli Heavy Penal Court No. 2 decided that Gamze Çelikdağ and Nil Dikenlibudak should not be allowed to receive visits for two months and that they should be transferred to Denizli D-type Prison (HRFTHuman Rights Foundation of Turkey , 24 December).
(12/134) Journalist convicted...
On 24 December 2009 Istanbul Penal Court No. 2 sentenced the journalist Şamil Tayyar to 20 months' imprisonment on the grounds that he used expressions in his book “Operation Ergenekon” that violated the secrecy of the investigation" into the Ergenekon case and was an attempt "to influence a fair trial". The presiding judge suspended the sentence against Şamil Tayyar for five years and ordered judicial supervision (ntvmsnbc.com, 24 December).
(12/135) Implementations of the Law to Fight Terror…
On 24 December 2009 three of 19 people who had been detained in Güroymak, Tatvan, Ahlat and Hizan districts of Bitlis province, were taken into pre-trial detention for having "made propaganda for an illegal organization". (Zaman, 24 December).
(12/136) Attack on building of a political party…
Material damage occurred as the result of an attack with Molotov cocktails on the office of the Justice and Development Party (AKPJustice and Development Party ) in Siirt-Eruh district on 23 December 2009 (Milliyet, 24 December).
