Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 5 went on hearing the case against the 54 mayors of the Democratic Society Party (DTP) who made a public statement on the allegations that Abdullah Öcalan was poisoned on 4 March 2007 on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law and “praising crime and criminal” under the Article of 215/1 of TPCTurkish Penal Code on 22 December 2009.
The court ordered Hakkâri former Mayor Metin Tekçe and Derik (in Mardin Province) Mayor Ramazan Kapar to be brought with force for the next hearing in 2010 (haberaktuel.com, 22 December).

On 22 December 2009 Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 5 went on hearing the case against the DTP’s Diyarbakır Deputy Selahattin Demirtaş in connection with his speech in Roj TV as he was the chairperson of Human Rights Association’s (HRAHuman Rights Association /IHD) Diyarbakır Branch on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law. The court decided to wait for the reply of Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 11 that would take the testimony of him and postponed the hearing to 2010 (Cumhuriyet, 22 December).

On 22 December 2009 five different places in Hakkâri Province were declared as “temporary military security zones” and the trespasses of civilians were banned between 20 December 2009 and 24 February 2010 on 20 March 2009 (Zaman, 22 December).

Eleven juveniles who had been detained in connection with the demonstration in Sultangazi District of İstanbul Province on 20 December 2009 were arrested on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” and “opposing to the Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations” on 22 December 2009 (ANF, 22 December).
