(11/138) Person killed by municipal police…
H.D., municipal police of Konak Municipality in Izmir Province, hit the head of retired worker Dogan Kalender (57) with his wireless in the morning of 18 November 2008 in Güzelyali Quarter of Izmir Province. Dogan Kalender fell down and he hit his head to the sideway and he died in Atatürk Training and Survey Hospital three days later. Sentry court released the municipal police H.D. to be tried without detention and authorities explained that he is still on his duty (Radikal, 21 November).
(11/139) Mine explosion in Van Province…
Emrullah Saçak (15) was killed and four children were wounded in the explosion of a mine in Hangedigi Village of Çaldiran District of Van Province on 22 November 2008 (Evrensel, 23 November)
(11/140) Person wounded with soldier’s fire in Van Province...
Evsel Sahin was wounded with the fire of soldiers as he was driving his car in Baskale District of Van Province. Sahin, was hospitalised to Van State Hospital (Gündem, 22 November).
(11/141) Coercion in prison…
Sevcan Atak a pre-trial detainee in Karatas Closed Prison for Woman in Adana Province claimed administration of the prison marked the prisoners’ wrists with a seal “one flag, one language, one country” (Radikal, 22 November).
(11/142) Case against four anti-war activists…
A case was launched against Oguz Sönmez, Mehmet Atak, Gürsat Özdamar and Serkan Bayrak in connection with the protest in front of the Galatasaray High School in Istanbul Province on 11 June against the detention of Mehmet Bal on 8 June and ill-treatment and torture inflicted on him under detention on charges of “alienating people from military service” under Article 318 of TPCTurkish Penal Code (Radikal, 24 November).
(11/143) Investigation against a person… An investigation was against Halil Solmaz (58) on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law in connection with his son’s tomb stone in Göleç Village Suruç District of Sanliurfa Province. “Sehit Namirin” (Martyr’s are Immortal) words were carved on the stone (ANF, 22 November).
(11/144) Intervention to public statement…
Riot police and private security forces of Ankara Natural Gas Distributing Corp. intervened to the public statement of the People’s House –Halkevleri- to protest the prices of the natural gas which was raised recently. Windows of the building was broken in the clash (Radikal, 22 November)
(11/145) Detentions and arrests…
Five out of seven people who had been detained in connection with the protest against the visit of the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Van Province on 1 November 2008 were arrested on 21 November (ANF, 21 November).
Hivdullah Seven a worker of Azediya Welat Newspaper was detained as he was selling the newspaper in a meeting in Batman Province (ANF, 22 November).
Twenty three out of 27 people who had been detained on charges of attending to the celebration of the opening of Democratic Society Party (DTP) Ayran Municipality Branch building and shouting slogans in Birecik District of Sanliurfa Province on 8 November were arrested on charges of “shouting slogans on behalf of an illegal organisation” on 22 November (ANF, 22 November).
Eight out of nine people who had been detained in home raids in Sirnak Province on 20 November on the grounds that they attended to the protests on 21 October were arrested on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation”, “opposing to security forces”, and “opposing to the Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations” (ANF, 22 November).
