(11/125) Extra-judicial killing in Ankara Province…
Police officer A.Y. who has been chasing Soner Çankal opened fire on the grounds that Çankal’s family attacked on him and wounded Soner Çankal in Altindag District of Ankara Province on 19 November. Çankal died in the hospital. Ankara Sentry Penal Court of Peace No. 12 arrested the police officer A.Y. (bianet.org, 21 November).

(11/126) Operations and clashes in Southeast…
Soldier Abdülkerim Aytis (21) died in the hospital on 20 November. He was wounded in the attack of Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKKKurdish Workers' Party ) armed wing People’s Defence Forces (HPGPeople's Defence Forces (armed wing of the PKK) ) militants in Çukurca District of Hakkâri Province on 9 November (Sabah, 21 November).

(11/127) “Stop” warning in Adana Province…
Police officer S.B. was arrested in connection with wounding Ahmet Yildirim (14) on the grounds that he stole a motorbike in Adana Province 7 November on charges of “intentionally wounding” on 20 November. Authorities stated after the incident that Yildirim does not have any previous conviction and did not steal the bike (Radikal, 21 November).

(11/128) Attack on police shuttle in Diyarbakir Province…
On 20 November R.B. was arrested on the grounds that he was the driver of the car that was used in the bomb attack on the police shuttle in Diyarbakir Province on 3 October. The number of the pre-trial detainees became 12 with the last arrestment (ntvmsnbc.com, 20 November).

(11/129) Coercion in prison…
T.Y. who had been released from Sakarya L Type Prison made an official complaint to Chief Public Prosecution Office against the guards of the prison who have been inflicted torture and ill-treatment on prisoners on 19 November. He claimed that guardians have been using a room called “interference room” which was not monitored with cameras, to inflict torture to prisoners (Radikal, 20 November).

(11/130) Interference to exhibition in university...
Riot police and private security officers of the Istanbul University interfered to the cartoon exhibition gathered from humour magazines such as Leman, Uykusuz, Penguen organised by Literature Collective of the Istanbul University Students on 20 November. Two students were wounded in the incident (kizilbayrak.net, 21 November).

On 20 November Ankara Çubuk Penal Court of Peace adjudicated to restrict the access to the website www.youtube.com, with its decision dated 30/10/2008 and no. 2008/558 (Vatan, 20 November).

(11/132) Convicted ESP member…
Ankara Penal Court of Peace No. 12 sentenced Kartal Correspondent of Atilim Newspaper Kadir Aktas to 6 months’ of imprisonment in connection with his speech in a public statement in Ankara Province on 6 March 2006 on charges of “humiliating the army” under Article 301 of TPCTurkish Penal Code on 20 November. The sentence dropped to 5 months’ of imprisonment and then commuted to a fine of 3000 YTL (atilim.org, 20 November).

(11/133) Convicted mayor…
Diyarbakir Heavy Penal Court No. 6 sentenced Sirnak Mayor Ahmet Ertak to 15 months’ of imprisonment in connection with his interview with French news channel France-24 on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law on 20 November (ntvmsnbc.com, 20 November).

(11/134) Banned names for the parks… Kayapinar Governorate banned the Kurdish names (Rosna-Spark in the eye, Silan-Wild rose ve Rojda-Sun rise) given to parks under-construction by Diyarbakir Kayapinar Municipality on the grounds that they are inconvenient on 11 November (ANF, 20 November).

Kirsehir Penal Court of First Instance No. 1 sentenced Democratic Society Party’s (DTP) Kirsehir Province chairperson Yüksel Han to 6 months’ of imprisonment in connection with a Kurdish placard, “Roja 8’ê Adarê ya Jinan Pîroz be”, used on 8 March World Woman Workers’ Day on charges of violating Article 117 of Law of Political Parties on 20 November (Gündem, 20 November).

Tunceli Governorate cancelled the concert of Ahmet Aslan on 19 November which was planned to be held in Tunceli Province on 21 November (Taraf, 20 November).

(11/137) Detentions and arrests…
Four members of the High School Students League -Liseli Ögrenci Birligi (LÖB)- were detained in Küçükyali Vocational High School in Istanbul Province 20 November (atilim.org, 20 November).
