(12/079) Extra-judicial killing in Istanbul Province…
C.K., a police officer from the police team that interfered to the Iraqi group that stabbed a private security member of a bar in Sisli District of Istanbul Province, shot two people on 20 December. Muhsin Kasapoli, one of the wounded people, died in the hospital that he was hospitalised (Yeni Safak, 21 December).

Almina Uygun, the daughter of the Bülent Uygun who is the technical director of the Sivasspor –a soccer team-, was beaten by a private security officers Y.Ö. as she tried to enter the 19 Mayis Stadium in Ankara Province on 21 December (Hürriyet, 21 December).

Singer Alisan stated that his cousin Mehmet Tekin (22) was detained beaten by police officers after the engagement ceremony of Alsan’s brother and police officer threatened Alisan with doing the same thing in Üsküdar Dogancilar Police Station as he went to get information about his cousin. Tekin claimed that officers beat him saying “you dirty PKKKurdish Workers' Party member you will see now” (Milliyet, 19 December).

Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 11 sentenced Ali Okuyucu, Döndü Gök, Mehmet Salih Sürücü, Tuncay Yogurtçu and Cengiz Sütçü to 13 months of imprisonment each and Muhammed Kaya to 39 months’ of imprisonment in connection with the Newroz and May day Celebrations in Ankara Province in 2008 on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law 19 December (AMF, 19 December).

Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 11 sentenced Mehmet Tusun, Fevzi Kara, Salih Karaaslan, Mehmet Sirin Karademir, Yildiz Bahçeci, Mehmet Hanifi Selem, Meryem Altun, Ismet Aras, Abdurrahim Bilen, Ihsan Güler, Nurhayat Altun, Sinan Ugur, Kibar Kara, Sirri Keles, Nedim Tas, Battal Arican and Menderes Öner to ten months’ of imprisonment each in connection with attending to the religious ceremony (Mevlid) for Sinan Altun, a Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) armed wing People’s Defence Forces (HPGPeople's Defence Forces (armed wing of the PKK) ) militant who was killed in a clash in 2006, on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law on 19 December (Gündem, 19 December).

Diyarbakir Heavy Penal Court No. 4 arrested the ex-vice chairperson of the Democratic Society Party (DTP) Selma Irmak on the grounds that she did not give testimony in the case against her in Adana Heavy Penal Court No. 6 on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law on 19 December (Gündem, 19 December).

Diyarbakir Heavy Penal Court No. 5 sentenced DTP Batman Province executives Aysel Güven and Gülnaz Kaya to ten months’ of imprisonment in connection with shaving their hair as a protest on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law on 19 December (ANF, 19 December).
(12/086) Detentions and arrests…
Tunceliler Association Branch chairperson Özkan Arslan and Serdar Atak were detained in Osmangazi District of Bursa Province on 19 December. Arslan was released but Atak was arrested on charges of “being a member of an illegal organisation (TKP/MLCommunist Party of Turley/Marxist-Leninist -TIKKOWorkers and Peasants' Liberation Army of Turkey )” and “having a fake identity card” (atilim.org, 20 December).
