Bergama Industry Vocational High School –in Izmir Province- student Tolga Yilmaz was beaten by the deputy administrator O.Ö. on the grounds that his cell phone’s alarm was rang although it was closed on 24 November (Evrensel, 18 December).

Kars Penal Court of Peace confiscated the weekly Bagimsizlik Demokrasi Sosyalizm Için Yürüyüs Magazine’s issue No. 167 published on 14 December 2008 on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law and “praising crime and criminal” under the Article of 215/1 of TPCTurkish Penal Code on 18 December (halkinsesi.tv, 18 December).

Istanbul Bakirköy Penal Court of First Instance No. 18 acquitted the singer Bülent Ersoy in connection with her words in a TV programme on charges of “alienating people from military service”under Article 318 of TPC on 18 December (Sabah, 19 December).
(12/078) Detentions and arrests…
Eight out of 15 people -Sabri Acar, Naci Elgin, Celal Gürses, Erhan Bildirici, Hasan Dogan Aliye Dogan and Cengiz Dogan- who had been detained on charges of “shouting illegal slogans” in the meeting organised by Democratic Society Party (DTP) on 30 November in Karakoçan District of Elazig Province were arrested on 18 December (ANF, 18 December).
Four members of the Rights Association -Adem Yildiz, Zeynep Karademir, Nurcan Hanbayat, Volkan Baran- were detained as they were distributing Yürüyüs Magazine in Elazig Province on 18 December (halkinsesi.tv, 18 December).
