(05/086) Extra-judicial killing in Muğla Province…
Muğla University student Şerzan Kurt (21) who has been seriously wounded with the fire of police officer Gültekin Şahin in the intervention of police teams to the clash of two opposite groups in Muğla Province on 11 May 2010, died in Dokuz Eylül University Medicine Faculty Hospital on 19 May 2010.
Muğla Governorate stated on 17 May 2010 that police officer Gültekin Şahin was arrested (Radikal, 19 May).

Soldier Erman Aydın who had been wounded in the attack on Sarıyayla Gendarmerie Station in Nazimiye District of Tunceli Province in which four soldiers and one militant were killed on 30 April 2010 died on 19 May 2010 (Yeni Şafak, 20 May).

Five people who had been attacked by the racists on the grounds that they were Kurdish Gümüldür District İzmir of Province on 15 May 2010 were detained and beaten in Gendarmerie Station on 16 May 2010. The commander of the station allegedly threatened them to leave the district (Gündem, 19 May).

The three prisoners of Tekirdağ F Type Closed Prison No. 2, Baran Nayır, Ali Deniz Kılıç and İbrahim (whose surname was not mentioned), were beaten by the guardians on the grounds that they did not stand up as they entered the cell reported on 15 May 2010 (ozgurradyo.com, 18 May).

İzmir Heavy Penal Court No. 10 sentenced Yusuf Kaya the former Chairperson of the İzmir Branch of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDPPeace and Democracy Party ), to 20 months of imprisonment in connection with “honourable Öcalan” phrase he used in the congress of Manisa Branch of the Democratic Society Party (DTP) in May 2009 on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law on 19 May 2010 (ANF, 19 May).

On 18 May 2010 Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 5 sentenced Sıdık Taş, Siirt Branch Chairperson of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), to 7 years’ and one month of imprisonment in connection with reading the public statement in Siirt Province on 9 October 2009 on charges of “committing offence on behalf of an organisation although he is not a member” under Article 220/6 of TPCTurkish Penal Code and “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law (ANF, 18 May).

İstanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 9 began to hear the case against Dicle News Agency’s (DİHA) reporter İsmail Eskin who had been detained on 4 December 2009 in connection with photographing the demonstration to protest the prison conditions of Abdullah Öcalan in Kocaeli Province on 29 November 2009 on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law on 18 May 2010. The court released İsmail Eskin and adjourned the hearing to 30 September 2010 (bianet.org, 18 May).

Material damage occurred with the explosion of the sound bomb which were left in front of the representative office of Grand Unity Party [Büyük Birlik Partisi (BBP)] in Kazım Karabekir Quarter of Gaziosmanpaşa District of İstanbul Province in the night of 19 May 2010 (Yeni Şafak, 20 May).

Gendarmerie soldiers hindered “Live Shield” action which was organised by Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) that was aimed to visit the Maden Gendarmerie Station to stop the military operations with the ban decision of the Governorate on 19 May 2010 (Radikal, 19 May).

15 out of the 34 detainees who were also students of Balıkesir University were arrested on the grounds that they were members of Patriotic Democratic Youth Assembly (YDG-M) on 18 May 2010 (Gündem, 18 May).
Four out of the 8 people who had been detained in the operations against the Youth Federation in Erzincan Province were arrested on charges of “being a member of an illegal organisation” on 19 May 2010 (Zaman, 19 May).
