(12/104) Intervention to the protest of the workers of TEKEL…
On 17 December 2009 police teams interfered the protests of the TEKEL workers against the privatisation of the some of the factories and working as a contacted employee in some of the factories in front of the General Centre of the Justice and Development Party (AKPJustice and Development Party ) and in Abdi İpekçi Park in Ankara Province with pressured water and gas bombs. Police teams did not stop even after the workers fell into the pool in the park in a freezing weather. Ankara Governor called the protest that has been supported by the members of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic Turkey as a “provocation”. Twenty-nine workers were detained in the intervention (TİHV, 18 December).

A.A.’s (14) ribbs were fractured in the intervention of the law enforcement officers to the protest in Silvan District of Diyarbakır Province on 17 December 2009 (ANF, 17 December).
Twelve people –five of the juveniles- were detained in the operation of Adana Security Directorate on 17 December 2009 and fifteen people were detained in the operations in Siirt Province (Zaman, 17 December).
Four out of the 7 detainees in Hakkâri Province, 19 out of the 25 detainees in Diyarbakır Province, a detainee in Siirt Province and 11 detainees –four of the juveniles- in Adana Province were arrested on 17 December 2009 (Gündem; Milliyet; Zaman, 17 December).

Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 4 sentenced Viranşehir Mayor Leyla Güven and Kurdish Language and Education Movement (TZP Kurdî) worker Seve Demir to 12 months of imprisonment each in connection with their speeches in an activity in Diyarbakır Province on 25 September 2008 on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law reported on 17 December 2009 (Gündem, 17 December).
