(05/067) The case of the murder of Hrant Dink…

Trabzon Heavy Penal Court No.1 went on hearing the case against eight public officials including Major Ali Öz, in connection with the murder of Hrant Dink on 19 January 2007 by Ogün Samast in Istanbul Province on charges of “negligence in office” under Article 257/2 of TPCTurkish Penal Code on 12 March 2011. The court declined tha case on the grounds that two cases cannot be launched against the defendants in connection with the same incident

There is another ongoing case against the defendants in Trabzon Penal Court of Peace No.2 on charges of “negligence in office” under Article 257/2 of TPC (ntvmsnbc.com, 17 May).

(05/069) Ongoing KCKUnion of Communities in Kurdistan Case in Eskişehir Province…

On 17 May 2011 Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 12 began to hear the case against 92 defendants -9 of them pre-trial detainees- on charges of “being a member of an illegal organisation -Koma Ciwaken Kurdistan-Kurdistan Communities League /Assembly of Turkey (KCK/TMKCK Par lament Turkey ), the KCK is the intend to organize the Kurdish people as an umbrella organization that includes Kurdistan Workers Party (PKKKurdish Workers' Party )” under Article 314 of TPC.

The court declined the request of the defendants to make their legal argument in Kurdish and released two of the pre-trial detainees (Cumhuriyet, 17 May).

(05/070) Incidents after the killing of PKK militants in the clash in Şırnak Province…

The protests against the killing of 12 militants in the clash between Turkish Armed Forces and Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) armed wing People’s Defence Forces (HPGPeople's Defence Forces (armed wing of the PKK) ) in the mountainous region of Uludere District of Şırnak Province and in the Iraq part of the border region on 12 and 13 May 2011, were carried out also on 17 May 2011. Twenty people were detained on the grounds that they had participated in the demonstration in Istanbul Province.

Memduh Demirkıran (73) and M.M. (15) were wounded with the hit of the gas bomb shells in Nusaybin District of Mardin Province. M.M. who was in critical condition was reportedly taken to the intensive care service.

Three police officers and six demonstrators were wounded and 10 people were detained in Hakkâri Province. Telli Korkmaz (33) was wounded with the hit of the gas bomb shells in Yüksekova District and hospitalised Yüksekova State Hospital (ANF, 17 May).

(05/071) Incidents before the general election for the deputies on 12 June 2011…

Unidentified people attacked on the Justice and Development Party’s (AKPJustice and Development Party ) election office with a sound bomb causing material damage in Sur District of Diyarbakır Province on 17 May 2011 (Star, 18 May).

Material damage took place in the election bus of the AKP candidate Ömer Çelik with the Molotov Cocktails that were thrown in Adana Province on 17 May 2011 (ANF, 18 May).

Unidentified people attacked on the AKP’s election office with Molotov Cocktails causing material damage in Küçükdikili Quarter of Adana Province on 18 May 2011 (Yeni Şafak, 18 May).

Unidentified people attacked on the AKP’s election office with Molotov Cocktails causing material damage in Küçükçekmece District of Istanbul Province on 17 May 2011. Five people were detained in connection with the incident (Zaman, 18 May).

Unidentified people attacked on the AKP’s election office with stones causing material damage in Çanakkale Province on 18 May 2011 (cnnturk.com, 18 May).

(05/072) Detentions and arrests…

Twelve people were detained in home raids on charges of “being a member of an illegal organisation -Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front -Devrimci Halk Kurtuluş Cephesi (DHKC)” in Ankara Province on 17 May 2011 (halkinsesitv.info, 17 May).
