(03/064) Explosion in Şemdinli...
Şehriban Eren, Muhabbet Kaya, Rahmi Demir and Fatiha Kaya were injured, when on 16 March 2010 a mine exploded near Yeşilova village of Derecik town in Şemdinli district, Hakkari province. Fatiha Kaya and Muhabbet Kaya had to be taken to Hakkâri State Hospital, because of serious injuries (ANF; Zaman, 16 March).
(03/065) Alleged disappearance in İstanbul...
Following the press conference of the Yetkin family at the office of the Istanbul branch of Human Rights Association (HRAHuman Rights Association ) alleging that Ali Yetkin, a reader of the newspaper Worker-Peasant was missing since 8 March 2010 an official reply came on 16 March 2010. Officials of the police informed the family that Ali Yetkin was imprisoned in Metris T-type Prison.
The Istanbul branch of the HRA stated that is was unacceptable that the family had not been informed of the whereabouts of their son for eight days.
On the other hand 10 people of the Support Association for families of prisoners (TAYAD) who had tried to put up banners at the Bosporus bridge on the disappearance of Ali Yetkin and four people, who wanted to do the same at the office of the Justice and Development Party (AKPJustice and Development Party ) in Istanbul were detained (ANF; ntvmsnbc.com, 16 March).
(03/066) Violence at a primary school...
It was alleged that on 11 March 2010 the teacher H.A. (36) forced the 28 pupils in the class to slap F.O. (7) pupil in the second class of the primary school in Tepeköy in Selçuklu district, Konya province in the face, because he had forgotten the school book.
His mother B.O. saw the bruises and swollen face and went to the Health Office to have a report being issued. At Tepeköy Gendarmerie Station the testimony of the teacher H.A. was taken and on 15 March 2010 he was suspended from duty (Milliyet, 16 March).
(03/067) Pressure in Prison...
Families informed that prisoners in Kırıklar (İzmir) F-type Prison No. 1 had to stand at attention before they were allowed to make telephone calls and that their right for communication had been lowered to six hours per week. The prisoners who had provided this information to their families over the phones were Mustafa Öner, Servet Demirpençe, Aydın Akyüz and Vahap Biçici (ANF, 16 March).
(03/068) Person acquitted...
On 16 March 2010 Adana Heavy Penal Court No. 6 acquitted Hasan Hüseyin Reyhan, previous chair of the Association for Solidarity with prisoners' families (THAY-DER), who during a protest on 4 May 2009 at the operations against the Democratic Society Party (DTP) had said "Honourable Öcalan" and had been charged under Article 215 of the Turkish Penal Code (Gündem, 16 March).
(03/069) Operations against BDPPeace and Democracy Party and HRA...
In an operation against members and executives of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and the Human Rights Association (HRA) alleged to be members of Koma Ciwaken Kurdistan (Union of Kurdish Communities) KCK/TMKCK Par lament Turkey (Turkey Assembly) 14 people were detained in Siirt on 16 March 2010. Among the detainees are Sıdık Taş, chair of the BDP in Siirt and Vetha Aydın, chair of the Siirt branch of the HRA (Zaman; ANF, 16 March).

In simultaneous operations ordered by the prosecution's office in Erzincan four people were detained in Erzincan and seven people were detained in Trabzon as alleged members of the Socialist Youth Association (SGD) on 16 March 2010 (atilim.org; Zaman, 16 March).
