(05/069) Extra-judicial killing in Kayseri Province…
Salih Ergil (22) raided on the factory that he had been working and took the workers as hostages in Kayseri Province on 17 May 2009. Salih Ergil was killed with the fire of gendarmeries after he released three of the hostages. Authorities argued that Ergin had committed suicide (Radikal, 17 May).

(05/070) Operations and clashes in Southeast…
One village guard was killed and another one was wounded in the explosion of a mine in Eruh District of Siirt Province on 15 May 2009. Seven militants were killed and two soldiers and two village guards were wounded in the operation which was launched after the explosion (ntvmsnbc.com, 16 May).
Soldier Yusuf Polat who was wounded in the explosion of a mine in Çukurca District of Hakkâri Province on 12 May 2009 died in the hospital on 14 May 2009 (Zaman, 14 May).
One soldier and a worker were wounded in the explosion of a mine in the region between Midyat and Nusaybin Districts of Mardin Province on 13 May 2009 (Milliyet, 14 May).

(05/071) Person beaten by private security officers…
Private security officers of Middle East Technical University (METU) beat Psychologist Yasemin Mert whom they had argued with as they hindered her entrance to the university for the Fourth International Anti-Homophobia Meeting in Ankara Province on 14 May 2009. Yasemin Mert’s finger was fractured in the incident (sesonline.net, 15 May).

(05/072) Coercion in prisons…
Thirteen prisoners of Silvan Closed Prison were exiled to Batman M Type Closed Prison on 16 May 2009 (Günlük, 16 May).

(05/073) Arrested person… Seferi Yilmaz, the owner of Umut Bookstore which had been bombed by the officers of Gendarmerie Intelligence and Fighting with Terrorism Department (JITEM) in Semdinli District of Hakkâri Province on 9 November 2005, was arrested on the grounds that there is a final conviction against him on 15 May 2009 (atilim.org, 15 May).

(05/074) Acquitted people…
Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 8 acquitted Democratic Society Party’s (DTP) executives Mehdi Tanrikulu, Hasan Özgünes and Abdülkerem Kuzu in connection with a public statement after the campaign named “Honourable Ocalan” on charges of “praising crime and criminal” under the Article of 215/1 of TPCTurkish Penal Code on 14 May 2009 (Birgün, 15 May).

(05/075) Operations against DTP…
Ten out of twenty people who had been detained in Konya Province on 13 May 2009 in the operations against Democratic Society Party (DTP) that began with the order of Diyarbakir Chief Public Prosecution Office on 14 April 2009 were arrested on 15 May 2009 (atilim.org, 16 May).

(05/076) Fighting with Terrorism Law in practise…
Six members of Patriotic Democratic Youth Assembly (YDG-M) who had been detained in Silopi District of Sirnak Province on 14 May 2009 were arrested on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” on 17 May 2009 (Gündem, 17 May).
