(11/084) Bomb attack in Diyarbakir Province…
Public prosecutor asked for life sentence in solitary confinement and with no possiblity of parole nine times for pre-trial detainee Erdal Polat in connection with the bomb attack on a military shuttle in Diyarbakir Province on 3 January 2008 in which 7 people were killed and 68 people were wounded on charges of “disrupting the unity and integrity of the state”, “being a member of an terror organisation”, “acting on behalf of the terror organisation” in the hearing in Diyarbakir Heavy Penal Court No. 5 on 13 November. The prosecutor asked for 6 years’ of imprisonment each for the other six defendants on charges of “helping voluntarily the illegal organisation” (ntvmsnbc.com, 13 November).
(11/085) Extra-judicial killing case in Bursa Province…
On 13 November Bursa Heavy Penal Court No. 5 began to hear the case of the murder of Gökhan Ergün (21) by police officer Mustafa Aktas (33) on the grounds that he did not obey the “stop” warning in Bursa Province on 26 August 2008. The prosecutor asked for an imprisonment of 26 years (Milliyet, 13 November).

Three students were wounded and three students were detained in the incident which started with the attack of right-wingers on the protest against the release of pre-trial detainee Hüseyin Üzmez in Istanbul University on 13 November (Radikal, 14 November).

M.Ö. claimed that he was beaten during apprehension and in detention by a civil police officer on the grounds that he asked his identity card in Bodrum District of Mugla Province on 4 November (ANF, 13 November).

Ferizli –in Sakarya Province- Penal Court of Peace adjudicated to arrest the five guardians of Sakarya L Type Prison on charges of “inflicting torture” to prisoners on 13 November (ntvmsnbc.com, 13 November).
(11/089) Tried Students…
Ministry of Justice authorised the court for the case against the ten university students -Ali Haydar Günes, Esma Yavuz, Sabit Çiçek, Sahin Kösedagi, Nadide Toker, Ali Bozkina, Can Aydemir Sezer, Atilla Aka, Esra Sönmez and Nihal Samsum- to be tried under Article 301 of TPCTurkish Penal Code in connection with the protest in the 7th anniversary of the operations to prisons in Eskisehir Province on 19 December2007. People in the vicinity of the protest had tried to lynch the students. First hearing will be held in Eskisehir Penal Court of Peace No. 2 on 19 November (bianet.org, 13 November).

Three songs -“Asi Bir Küheylan”, “Ey Felek” and “Hasan Vurulur”- of Serhad Rasa from his album named “Merhaba” were banned to be broadcasted in media and in public (Birgün, 14 November).

Liseli Dev-Genç Magazine’s first issue was confiscated on 12 November. The court also adjudicated to hold of the publication of the magazine for one month on charges of “praising crime and criminal” and “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” (Birgün, 14 November).
(11/092) Tried Juveniles…
A case was launched against six people –five of the primary school students- in connection with the protests against the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Diyarbakir Province on 20 October on charges of “acting on be half of the illegal organisation”, “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” and “resisting to security forces with weapons or tools. The prosecutor asked for an imprisonment of 23 years’ each on 13 November (ntvmsnbc.com, 13 November).

Democratic Society Party’s (DTP) Sanliurfa Centre District Branch chairperson Salih Sagis and two other people were arrested on charges of “organising a demonstration without permission”, “praising crime and criminal”, and “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” 13 November. They had been detained on 12 November on the grounds that they attended to the public statement in Sanliurfa Province on 19 October (ANF, 13 November).

Two of the three people who had been detained in the protests against the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Van Province on 1 November were arrested on 13 November (ANF, 13 November).
