Prisoner Nihat Taysan (26) committed suicide by hanging himself in Ceyhan (Adana) Half Open Prison on 12 June 2009. Nihat Taysan’s father Mehmet Taysan claimed that his son would be released 5 months later and he is suspected from a murder (adanahavadis.com, 13 June).

Four soldiers and a peasant were wounded in the explosion of a mine in Yüksekova District of Hakkâri Province on 12 June 2009 (tsk.tr, 12 June).
A soldier and a HPGPeople's Defence Forces (armed wing of the PKK) militant were killed in the clash in Yüksekova District of Hakkâri Province and another soldier was wounded in Semdinli District on 13 June 2009 (ntvmsnbc.com, 14 June).

Izmir Heavy Penal Court No. 6 sentenced municipal police Hüseyin Demirçivi (40) to 10 years of imprisonment in connection with killing Dogan Kalender (57) with hitting him with a radio from his head in Izmir Province on 19 November 2008 on charges of “intentionally wounding on 15 June 2009 (Milliyet, 15 June).

Relatives of Ferit Yalçin (27) claimed that Yalçin who went to Karakus (Êrenî) Village of Gürpinar (Payizava) District of Van Province to be a shepherd was disappeared 20 days ago on 13 June 2009. Ferit Yalçin’s father Siddik Yalçin claimed that his son’s friend told him that Ferit Yalçin was kidnapped by three people (Gündem, 13 June).

On 12 June 2009 Van Military Court decided to re-evaluate the footage in the case in connection with the bombing of Umut Bookstore in Semdinli District of Hakkâri Province on 9 November 2005 (Zaman, 12 June).
(06/084) Attacks in universities…
Right-wingers attacked on the six students who began to make hunger strikes to protest the administrational sentences in Black Sea Technical University (KTÜ), and nine students who visited them to support the strike on 10 June 2009. Three students were wounded in the attack ands students claimed that private security did not interfered the attack (Radikal, 12 June).
(06/085) Security Zones in Hakkâri, Siirt, Sirnak and Elazig Provinces…
Turkish General Staff introduced new “temporary military security zones” in the rural regions of Hakkâri, Siirt, Sirnak and Elazig Provinces between 16 June 2009 and 16 September 2009 and banned the trespassing of the civilians to the zones (tsk.tr, 14 June).

Abdurrahman Timur Esrefyil Human Rights Association’s (HRAHuman Rights Association /IHD) Izmir Branch and claimed that he was beaten by police officers as he was spending time with his friends in Alsancak Port in Izmir Province on 12 June 2009. He and his friends were detained and were taken to Alsancak Police station where they learned that they were detained on the grounds that there was an official complaint against them (Gündem, 12 June).

Hüseyin Sarialtin, a prisoner in Bolu F Type Closed Prison, was not released although he finalised his sentence on the grounds that his case was in the Supreme Court of Appeal on 13 June 2009 (Gündem, 13 June).

Adana Heavy Penal Court No. 7 sentenced R.S. (16), M.S. (15), N.K. (14), S.A. (14), R.E. (13) and S.K.’ye (14) to 10 years, 8 months and 20 days of imprisonment each in connection with attending to some protests in Adana Province in 2008 on charges of “committing offence on behalf of an organisation although he is not a member” under Article 220/6 of TPCTurkish Penal Code , “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law, “resisting to officers on duty” on 8 June 2009.
On 9 June 2009 Adana Heavy Penal Court No. 6 sentenced M.B. (16) to 8 years and 6 months’ of imprisonment on charges of “committing offence on behalf of an organisation although he is not a member” under Article 220/6 of TPC and “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law.
On 11 June 2009 Adana Heavy Penal Court No. 8. sentenced H.G. (14) and Ç. S. (16) to 7 years and one month of imprisonment each on charges of “committing offence on behalf of an organisation although he is not a member” under Article 220/6 of TPC and “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law (ANF, 13 June).
On 15 June 2009 Adana Heavy Penal Court No. 8 sentenced to H.A., A.Ö., M.Z. and I.Y. to 7 years and two months of imprisonment each on charges of “committing offence on behalf of an organisation although he is not a member” under Article 220/6 of TPC and “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law (ANF, 15 June).

Military Court of the Turkish General Staff banned the publication of news concerning the news published in Taraf Newspaper with the “Plan on destroying Justice and Development Party (AKPJustice and Development Party ) and Gülen” heading on 12 June 2009 (AA, 12 June).
(06/090) Interference to the protest against crisis…
The members of People’s House’s (Halkevleri) Istanbul Branch made a public statement in front of a mall to protest the economic crisis and “consume” suggestion of the organisations of employers on 14 June 2009. Police teams and private security officers detained 12 people after the statement using excessive use of force (halkevleri. org.tr, 14 June).

Four out of fifteen members of the New Democratic Youth who had been detained in Erzincan Province on 11 June 2009 were arrested on charges of “being a member of an illegal organisation” on 13 June 2009 (Gündem, 13 June).
Halil Yildirim and Murat Arasa out of the ten students who had been detained in Van Province on 12 June 2009 were arrested on charges of “helping and harbouring an illegal organisation” on 14 June 2009 (Gündem, 14 June).
Twelve out of the 20 students who had been detained in Siirt Province in home raids on 11 June 2009 were arrested on charges of “being a member of an illegal organisation” and “helping and harbouring an illegal organisation” on 13 June 2009 (Gündem, 13 June).
