(12/064) The Closure Case against the Democratic Society Party (DTP)…
The Constitution Court unanimously adjudicated to close the Democratic Society Party (DTP) on 11 December 2009 on the grounds that “taking into consideration both its actions and its relation with the terror organisation the party became the focus of actions that is characterised with the actions that disrupt the unity and integrity of the state” referring to the Articles 68 and 69 of the Constitution of Republic of Turkey and articles 101 and 103 of Law of Political Parties No. 2820. DTP became the 27th party that was closed by the court. 37 executives of DTP including co-chairpersons Ahmet Türk and Aysel Tuğluk banned from political participation for five years. The material mistakes in the verdict were criticized, such as banning Abdullah İsnaç and Leyla Zana from political participation although they are not executives of DTP (Radikal; Taraf, 12-13-14 December 2009).
(12/065) Incidents in the protests after the closure of DTP…
Law enforcement officers interfered the demonstration to protest the closure of DTP with pressured water and gas bombs in Hakkâri Province on 12 December 2009. Two civil police officers who were surrended with the protestors during the incidents were saved by the executives of DTP’s Province Branch. It is claimed that an unidentified fourteen year-old person was wounded with plastic bullet from her back (Radikal, 12 December 2009).
Hakkâri Governorate stated on 13 December 2009 that during and after the protests eleven people in the city centre of Hakkâri Province and 30 people in Yüksekova District were detained. Relatives of the detainees claimed that police teams use excessive force as they apprehended the detainees. Naif Acar living in Yeni Quarter claimed that his windows were broken with a gas bomb and his son Cihat Acar (11) was wounded with random firing from his leg (ANF, 13 December 2009).
Two police officers were wounded in the demonstration in Van Province on 12 December (Radikal, 12 December 2009).

Şevket Arslan was wounded with police fire after the public statement of DTP’s İstanbul Province Branch on 13 December 2009. Arslan was hospitalised but police teams detained him in the hospital and hindered his medical treatment (atilim.org, 13 December 2009)
Dicle News Agency’s (DİHA) reporter Safiye Alağaş, was beaten by a civil police officer as she was trying to photograph police officers as they were apprehending four people with excessive force (ANF, 13 December 2009).
Three people were wounded with plastic bullets and firearms and 11 people were detained in the incident after the declaration of the final statement of the Democratic Society Congress in Diyarbakır Province on 13 December 2009 (ANF, 13 December 2009)
Police teams interfered the protest in Kadifekale Quarter of Konak District of İzmir Province and detained six people on 13 December 2009. Şehmuz Ürek (13 or 14 year-old) was beaten by police officers and was hospitalised after the incident (ANF, 13 December 2009).
Gendarmerie teams detained five protestors in Bodrum District of Muğla Province on 13 December 2009. Detainees were arrested by the prosecutor (ANF, 13 December 2009).
