(09/039) Extra-judicial killing attempt in Bursa Province…
Police team interfered the fight between Coskun Doğan (29) and Nurhan Demir in Yıldırım District of Bursa Province on 7 September 2009. Coskun Doğan began to run away with his car because he thought that his license might be confiscated on the grounds that he was drunk. Police officers used papper gas and fired three times to stop Doğan. Coskun Doğan was hospitalised to Bursa State Hospital after the incident (sendika.org, 8 September).
(09/049) The Case of Revolutionary Path…
Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 4 announced its verdict in the case of Revolutionary Path Movement’s Adana Branch main case –the longest political case in Turkish judicial history which has been going on in last 28 years on 9 September 2009. The court sentenced the defendants Muhtar Sarıkaya, Ali Elbi, Erol Ozcan, Ziya Arıkan, Yaser Hamis, Mehmet Ayyıldız, Suleyman Eryılmaz and Zakir Bayram to life sentence in solitary confinement and with no possibility of parole on charges of “attempting to alter the constitutional order with arm force” under Article 146/1 of former TPCTurkish Penal Code (No. 765). The sentences then commuted to life sentences. Defendant Zeynel Orduzun was sentenced to 16 years and 8 months’ of imprisonment and the case against the defendant Mehmet Beyaztas was dropped on the grounds that statute of limitation (ntvmsnbc.com, 9 September).

Two soldiers were killed and seven soldiers were wounded in the explosion of a mine in Baskale District of Van Province on 9 September 2009 (Radikal, 10 September). According to the statement of the Turkish General Staff which was made on 9 September 2009, two soldiers and a militant were killed and a soldier was wounded in the ongoing clashes in Eruh District of Siirt Province and Cukurca District of Hakkari Province on 7 September 2009 (tsk.tr, 9 September).
(09/051) Tried Juveniles…
On 9 September 2009 Adana Heavy Penal Court No. 6 went on hearing the case against three juvenile, pre-trial detainees, F. E. (15), M.K. (15) and S.K. (15) who have been tried in connection with “throwing stones” to law enforcement officers in a demonstration in Tarsus District of Mersin Province in October 2008. The court adjudicated to prolong the pre-trial detention conditions for the defendants and postponed the case to 20 October 2009 (ANF, 9 September).
