(07/029) Operations and clashes in South-east…
A soldier was killed in the clash between Turkish Armed Forces and Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKKKurdish Workers' Party ) armed wing People’s Defence Forces (HPGPeople's Defence Forces (armed wing of the PKK) ) in the rural part of Çakırkaya Village of Pülümür District of Tunceli Province on 8 July 2011 (Zaman, 8 July).
HPG militants conducted ID check and abducted a non-commissioned officer, a specialised sergeant and a health officer in the road between Lice (Diyarbakır) District and Bingöl Province on 9 July 2011 (ntvmsnbc.com, 10 July).

Abdullah Savur who quarrelled with a police officer in plain clothes was beaten and subjected to gas in Van Province on 8 July 2011. Abdullah Savur was detained in the incident (yeniozgurpolitika.com, 9 July).

Twelve people who had been arrested in the protest against the meeting of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Hopa District of Artvin Province on 31 May 2011 and transferred to Erzurum E and H Type Closed Prison facing with torture and ill-treatment. It is reported that Ali Aksu was beaten in a room without surveillance cameras; four of them placed in a room with rats and the administration do not give Özgür Gündem and Birgün Newspapers and even textbooks on 9 July 2011 (ANF, 9 July).

Bakırköy Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 No. 8 went on hearing the case against Nedim Şener, the reporter of Milliyet Newspaper who has been a pre-trial detainee from Ergenekon Case in Silivri (İstanbul) L Type Closed Prison, in connection with two of his articles published on 29 December 2009 “Yol-İş Sendikası’nda Organize Yolsuzluk” and on 3 April 2010 “Fuar Yeri Kavgası Rüşvet Soruşturmasına Döndü” on charges of “violating the confidentiality of the investigation” under Article 285 of TPCTurkish Penal Code on 8 July 2011.
The court heard the legal argument of Şener in two different cases and adjourned the hearing (Radikal, 8 July).

Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 14 banned the publication of bimonthly Özgür Gelecek Newspaper in connection with its 13th issue published on 08-21 July 2011 (atilim.org, 8 July).
(07/034) Ongoing KCKUnion of Communities in Kurdistan Case in İzmir Province…
On 8 July 2011 İzmir Heavy Penal Court No. 8 went on hearing the case against the 35 members and executives of the Confederation of Public Employees Trade Unions (KESKConfederation of Trade Union in the Public Sector ) who had been detained in the operation with the order of İzmir Chief Public Prosecution Office on 28 May 2009.
The prosecutor asked in legal argument for the conviction of 31 defendants on charges of being members of Democratic Labour Confederation (KCK/TMKCK Par lament Turkey -DEK) which had been constituted in the coordination of the Koma Ciwaken Kurdistan-Kurdistan Communities League /Assembly of Turkey (KCK/TM), the KCK is the intend to organize the Kurdish people as an umbrella organization that includes Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
The hearing was adjourned for the preparation of the legal argument of the defendant on the essence of the case to 21 October 2011 (ANF, 8 July).
