(07/018) The investigation of the murder of Vedat Aydın…

Three people were detained with the order of Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecution Office in connection with the murder of Vedat Aydın, the former Chairperson of Diyarbakır Province Branch of the People’s Labour Party who had been abducted, tortured and killed on 3 July 1991, just nine days before the incident become time-barred on 27 June 2011.

H.A., H.Ç. and M.D. were released but there isn’t any information on when and where they had been detained (ANF, 6 July).

(07/019) Extra-judicial killing attempt in Kırıkkale Province…

Yavuzhan Şahin and Aydın Özaydın were wounded with the fire of O.A. a police officer working in Ankara Security Directorate on the grounds that they quarrelled with him on his debt in Kırıkkale Province on 6 July 2011 (Zaman, 6 July).

(07/020) Tried journalists…

İstanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 11 went on hearing the case against Ertuğrul Mavioğlu, a journalist of Radikal Newspaper in connection with the interview with Murat Karayılan, the chairperson of the executive board of the Koma Ciwaken Kurdistan-Kurdistan Communities League /Assembly of Turkey (KCK/TMKCK Par lament Turkey ), the KCKUnion of Communities in Kurdistan is the intend to organize the Kurdish people as an umbrella organization that includes Kurdistan Workers Party (PKKKurdish Workers' Party ), published between 28 and 30 October 2010 on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law reported on 6 July 2011.

After hearing the legal arguments of Ertuğrul Mavioğlu the court adjourned the hearing to 26 October 2011 (bianet.org, 6 July).

(07/021) Tried persons…

Sultanahmet Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 began to hear the case against the owner of the Sel Publishing house İrfan Sancı and the translator of The Soft Machine by William S. Burroughs Süha Sertabiboğlu, on the grounds that the novel is obscene on charges of “obscenity” under the Article 226 of the TPCTurkish Penal Code on 6 July 2011.

After hearing the legal arguments of the defendants the court adjourned the hearing to 11 October 2011 (ozgurradyo.com, 6 July).

(07/022) Confiscated books…

Kahramanmaraş Penal Court of Peace No. 1 evaluated the books that were sent to a prisoner Elbistan E Type Closed Prison and adjudicated to confiscate the books on 17 June 2011. Police teams raided on bookstore in İstanbul and Iğdır Provinces and confiscated Cengiz Kapmaz’s Imralı Days of Öcalan published by İthaki Press on 22 and 23 June 2011.

It is also reported that the court asked for the confiscation of the books that were convicted to be confiscated in the verdict: the tree volumes of the Democratic Society Manifesto; two volumes of the How Should be Done; the Role of the Democratic Politics in Kurdistan; Radical Democracy and Revolutionary Culture and Morals (KCK’s Committee of Science and Enlightenment).

The court also asked for the confiscation of the books which don’t have a verdict against them: The Issues of Democratisation in Turkey, Resolution Models in Kurdistan (Road Map), Democratic Confederalism, An Anatomy of a War–Military Strategy in Kurdistan, Twenty Years in Life’s Passage and the Cry of Dersim (bianet.org, 6 July).
