(11/031) The case on excessive use of force by law enforcement officers…
Hakkâri Heavy Penal Court began to hear the case against the police officer who seriously wounded S.T. (14) with the end of his riffle in the protest in Hakkâri Province on 23 April 2009 on 5 November 2009. The officer did not attend to the hearing on the grounds that he was assigned to Elazığ Province. The court adjudicated to bring the officer to the next hearing that will be held on 12 December 2009 (Gündem, 5 November).
(11/032) Coercion in prison…
Toruntay Salman (19), a pre-trial detainee in Silivri (İstanbul) L Type Closed Prison had been beaten by gendarmerie soldiers in the prison shuttle on 31 August 2009. He and another prisoner were beaten again in the shuttle on 2 November 2009 and soldiers fractured the wrist bone of the detainee (Evrensel, 5 November).

It is reported on 6 November 2009 that the administration of the İmralı High Security Prison did not give Stratejik Analiz and Toplum ve Kuram Magazines and Günlük, Birgün and Taraf Newspapers, to Abdullah Öcalan on the grounds that those publications have been ““making propaganda of an illegal organisation” (Radikal, 6 November).

Dalyan Alsaç, a prisoner in Bolu F Type Closed Prison, sent a letter to Günlük Newspaper and stated that he got 21 discipline punishments since May 2005 with arbitrary reasons (Günlük, 5 November).

Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 11 restricted the access to the website mazgirt.net with its decision No. 2009/6163 on 28 September 2009 (indymedia.org, 5 November).
(11/036) Tried students…
On 5 November 2009 Erzurum Heavy Penal Court No. 2 went on hearing the case against 13 students of Cumhuriyet University –five of them pre-trial detainees, Erbil Çınar, İbrahim Karadaş, İlker Ekiz, Mustafa Doğan and Ali Ekber Kalender- who had been detained on 23 May 2008 in connection with the exhibition named “Our Common Enemy is USA” in Sivas Province on charges of “being a member of an illegal organisation” under Article 314 of TPCTurkish Penal Code and “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law. The court adjudicated to release the pre-trial detainees who were in prison in last 18 months and postponed the hearing to 19 January 2010 (TİHV; Zaman, 5 November).
