(12/036) Explosion in Agri Province…
A person was killed and two other people were wounded in the explosion of a mine in Çemçe Plateau in Agri Province on 6 December (ntvmsnbc.com, 7 December).

(12/037) Explosion in Bingöl Province …
Aziz Elkansu (73) was killed with the explosion of an unidentified material in Bingöl Province on 8 December (Zaman, 9 December).

(12/038) A child died as he was trying to run away from municipal police…
Bülent Çalikiran (13), who had been earning his life by selling paper tissues, died in a traffic accident as he was trying to run away from the municipal police in Kadiköy District of Istanbul Province on 6 December (Radikal, 7 December).

(12/039) Explosion in Istanbul Province …
Two people were wounded in the explosion of a sound bomb in front of a bank building in Fatih District of Istanbul Province on 7 December (ntvmsnbc.com, 7 December).

(12/040) Operations and clashes in Southeast…
On 7 December two Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKKKurdish Workers' Party ) armed wing People’s Defence Forces (HPGPeople's Defence Forces (armed wing of the PKK) ) militants were killed in the clash between security forces and HPG militants in the mountainous region of Sirnak Province (Star, 8 December).

(12/041) Torture and ill-treatment in detention…
Ömer Ardahan (70) made an official complaint and claimed that his two sons, Ugur Ardahan (20) and Murat Ardahan (25), were tortured in the police station Bornova District of Izmir Province on 7 December after they had been taken to the police station in connection with a quarrel with the tenants. Köksal Ardahan who went to the station to get information about his brother was also beaten. Authorities declined the allegations and claimed that the detainees resisted to the officers (Zaman, 7 December).

(12/042) Torture and ill-treatment in detention…
Cengiz Genç (33) was beaten by two civil police officers and his leg bone was fractured in the incident in Bodrum District of Mugla Province on 6 December. He was detained on charges of “resisting to police officers”. Bodrum District Security Director Niyazi Turgay claimed that Genç had hit his leg to the police vehicle as was apprehended. Cengiz Genç made an official complaint against the police officers. (Radikal, 8 December).

Erkan Akti (20) claimed that he and his father, who tried to protect his son, were beaten by police officers with batons and kicks on the grounds that he had quarrelled with his friends in Sason District of Batman Province on 12 December (Radikal, 15 December).

Teacher sergeant Adnan Aytaç (24) was threatened by civil police officers on the grounds that he talked with his relatives in Arabic language by phone in Beyoglu District of Istanbul Province on 12 December (Birgün, 14 December).

Nazmi Yakin was beaten by special operations team on the grounds that he helped a person who could only speak in Kurdish in Hakkâri State Hospital on 5 December. Yakin made an official complaint against the team (ANF, 7 December).

Mustafa Akdogan was beaten and insulted by police officers on the grounds that he asked the identity cards of the officers in Avcilar District of Istanbul Province in the night of 4 December. His skull was ruptured, his jaw was fractured in the incident (atilim.org, 8 December).

Lawyer Hüseyin Inan Izmirlioglu claimed that he was beaten by two civil police officers on the grounds that he kissed his girl friend in Yenibosna District of Istanbul Province on 6 December (Hürriyet, 8 December).

Democratic Society Party’s (DTP) Bahçelievler District executive Mustafa Erol, was beaten by three civil police officers on the grounds that he asked the identity cards of the officers in Istanbul Province on 6 December (Milliyet, 8 December).

(12/049) People beaten by private security officers...
Akin Sümer and Ayhan Sümer were beaten by 15 private security officers of Vakif Gureba Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul Province on 5 December. They also claimed that they were not medically treated after the incident by the personnel of the same hospital after the incident (Milliyet, 5 December).

H.H.A. (16), a pre-trial detainee in Diyarbakir E Type Prison was beaten by the guardians on the grounds that he made victiory sign in the visit of his family on 2 December. The administration punished H.H.A. with the ban of communication for two weeks and his father who quarrelled with the guardians for a year (Gündem, 12 December).

On 3 December five prisoners of Gaziantep H Type Closed Prison were beaten by a group of guardians (ANF, 9 December).

Female visitors of the prisoners of Mus E Type Closed Prison were stripped naked to be searched (Gündem, 10 December).

DTP’s Viransehir Municipality –in Sanliurfa Province- Assembly member Halil Dogan, who had been arrested on 26 November, claimed that he was stripped naked and tortured by the guardians on the Sanliurfa E Type Closed Prison and applied to Human Rights Association (HRAHuman Rights Association /IHD) on 9 December (Gündem, 9 December).

On 6 December the female visitors of the prisoners of Izmir Kiriklar Type Closed Prison No. 1 were searched to their underwear (Evrensel, 8 December).

Antalya Manavgat Penal Court of First Instance No. 1 sentenced 14 people to nine months of imprisonment in connection with speaking Kurdish in general elections which was held on 3 November 2002 on charges of “violating the election bans” on 17 October 2008. The verdict was declared on 6 December and Lawyer Münip Ermis stated that one of the defendants Hikmet Fidan died four years ago and some of the defendants could not speak Kurdish and another defendant, Sükrü Erbas, was not in the place of incident at that time (Evrensel, 8 December).

Erzurum Heavy Penal Court No. 2 sentenced five people to ten months’ of imprisonment in connection with the Newroz Celebrations on 22 March 2008 in Karayazi District of Erzurum Province on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law on 5 December (Milliyet, 10 December).

Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 11 restricted the access to the website, pdk-xoybun.com, with its verdict dated 28/11/2008 and No. 2008/6731 (ANF, 9 December).

(12/058) Confiscated Journal…
Kars Penal Court of Peace confiscated the weekly Bagimsizlik Demokrasi Sosyalizm Için Yürüyüs Magazine’s No. 166 on 9 December. Previous issues of the magazine No. 164 and 165- were also confiscated by the court (halkinsesi.tv, 11 December).

Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 14 sentenced the weekly Politika Newspaper with hold of publication for one month on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law on 12 December and also confiscated the issues of the newspaper No. 2 (ANF, 14 December).

Police teams interfered to the solidarity action of the cafeteria workers who had been fired in Ankara University Cebeci Campus on 5 December with “dawn operation and detained 45 students and workers (Radikal, 5 December).

On 9 December material damage was occurred due to the explosion of a bomb in front of the Justice and Development Party’s (AKPJustice and Development Party ) Van Branch office (ntvmsnbc.com, 9 December).
