(10/027) Extra-judicial killing in Istanbul Province…
Ümit Karababa (22) was killed by unidentified people in Bagcilar District of Istanbul Province in the night of 4 December. Murderer(s) cut the troat of Karababa and stabbed him from his abdomen (Sabah, 5 December).
(10/028) Death in detention…
Police teams from the Anafartalar Police Centre in Çanakkale Province, detained Abbas Inan (39) on 3 December. Authorities claimed that Inan committed suicide by hanging himself in the cell with a piece of blanket on 4 December. With the death of Inan the number of detainees died in detention became 8 in 2008 (Radikal, 5 December).

Nihat Günes who was released from Tekirdag F Type Prison No. 2 on 21 November, applied to Human Rights Association (HRAHuman Rights Association ) on 4 December. The claimed that prisoners were beaten by guardians with arbitrary reasons and the administration of the prison sentenced the prisoners with discipline punishment for the letters in Kurdish (Gündem, 4 December).

Police teams interfered the protest of taxi drivers with batons and pepper gas in Kadiköy District of Istanbul Province on 4 December. A police officer was wounded and three drivers were detained in the incident (Zaman, 4 December).

Kars Penal Court of Peace adjudicated to confiscate the 165th issue of Bagimsizlik Demokrasi Sosyalizm için Yürüyüs Newspaper on charges of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” under Article 7/2 of Fighting with Terrorism Law and “praising crime and criminal” under the Article of 215/1 of TPCTurkish Penal Code on 1 December (halkinsesi.tv, 4 December).
(10/034) Convicted DTP member… Diyarbakir Heavy Penal Court No. 5 sentenced Leyla Zana, ex-deputy of Democracy Party (DEP), to eight years’ of imprisonment in connection with nine different speeches on charges of “being a member of an illegal organisation” under Article 314 of TPC. The court increased the sentence to 12 years’ due to “terror crime” and then decreased it to ten years. (Radikal, 4 December).
